What technical brushes are and what they are used for

Technical brushes are components designed to be mounted on industrial machinery, automated production lines or professional devices. Depending on the shape of the body, the arrangement of the tufts, the type of filament and the material used, they can transport parts, clean surfaces, guide materials along the line, protect delicate parts, contain dust or liquids, lubricate, polish, wash or contribute to product deburring.

In many applications, therefore, the technical brush is an essential element: the choice of body, base, core, tufts, bristles and filaments affects the behaviour of the brush, the life of the component, the regularity of movement and the quality of the process. What we produce

Davy produces all the main families of industrial technical brushes, configuring them with natural bristles, synthetic fibres or metal filaments according to the working environment, the type of surface and the function the brush has to perform.

Cylindrical technical brushes

Cylindrical technical brushes are built around a roller core and are normally designed to work on rotating shafts; they can be used for conveying, washing, polishing, removing residues, lubricating and processing parts along the production line. The arrangement of the tufts can be uniform over the entire surface or organized in a spiral pattern, so as to follow the movement of the machine, direct swarf or residues and adapt the behaviour of the brush to the required function.

Linear and strip technical brushes

Linear technical brushes are made with tufts of filaments arranged on a straight base. When the filaments are held by a metal profile, they are called strip brushes; when they are punched into a plastic strip, they are called traditional linear brushes. These brushes are used as protection, guiding, containment or separation elements along production lines: they can limit the passage of dust, liquids, fumes or noise, protect moving components or clean conveyor belts and linear surfaces.

Flat technical brushes

Flat technical brushes are made by applying tufts of filaments to a square, rectangular, triangular or custom-shaped flat support according to the required drawing: they are designed for processes with linear movement and can also be made as actual brush tables. This solution is suitable when delicate sheets need to be supported, accompanied or protected during processing, reducing the risk of scratches, cracks or surface damage. The direction, inclination and density of the filaments can be defined according to the movement of the parts and the required degree of protection.

Front disc technical brushes

Front disc technical brushes have a circular shape and tufts punched into the surface of the disc, and are designed to work on flat surfaces in a position perpendicular to their axis of rotation. They are used for automated cleaning, polishing, lubrication and deburring operations, including on complex surfaces or mechanical parts that are difficult to reach. The density, arrangement and inclination of the tufts allow the brush to be adapted to the material being processed and to the type of operation.

Industrial tube brushes

Industrial tube brushes are a particular type of technical brush in which the filaments are mounted around a metal rod support. This structure allows the brush to work inside hollow elements, reaching internal surfaces evenly. Davy produces technical tube brushes in cotton or synthetic materials for manual or automated professional and industrial applications, particularly for lubricating moulds used in hollow glass processing or for internal pipe cleaning.

Custom technical brushes for your machine

Davy can manufacture standard or fully customized technical brushes, working from the customer’s drawing or developing a solution based on the characteristics of the machine, the available space, the required movement and the function the brush has to perform. The brushes can be designed for new applications or to replace, improve or adapt components already installed on existing plants. The availability of an internal moulding department ensures that every part produced is configured exactly according to your real production needs.

Replacement technical brushes

Davy can manufacture replacement technical brushes to replace components of any type and brand already installed on existing machinery, plants or production lines. The work can start from a technical drawing, from the measurements you provide, or directly from the old part to be replaced, so as to reconstruct its shape, dimensions, fixing system, tuft arrangement and filament type according to the function the brush has to perform.

When a worn technical brush is no longer available as a standard spare part, or when the original component no longer fully meets the needs of the process, Davy can support the customer in producing a new brush compatible with the machine, evaluating materials, density, hardness, body shape and filament configuration. In this way, the replacement is not only used to substitute the previous part, but can also become an opportunity to improve the durability, behaviour and performance of the brush during operation.
